A full website rebuild for Pacific Gateway Center — a Honolulu nonprofit that, since 1973, has helped immigrants, refugees, and low-income residents across Hawaiʻi build toward self-sufficiency. The old site lived on Square; the rebuild moved it to Wix and, more importantly, reshaped it to feel like the government and agency sites its audience navigates every day.

That familiarity is the point: for the people PGC serves, “looks official” reads as “trustworthy and usable.”

A deliberately institutional blue — the color of forms, agencies, and official seals — sets a tone of trust on sight. Navy holds the headers and banner labels; a warm tan keeps the long content sections from feeling cold and bureaucratic; white keeps everything legible across more than thirty languages.

Designed to the audience, not to a trend. PGC’s clients spend their days on USCIS, state, and county portals, so the rebuild leans into that visual language — a utility nav with search and a language toggle, blue banner labels, clear service cards, and a prominent donate. It reads as official and dependable rather than “designy,” which is exactly what makes it work here.

Rebuilt off Square onto Wix. A clearer multi-page structure — services, get involved, our story, events — reorganized around what a client or partner is actually trying to do, and set up so staff can maintain it without a developer. The content was rewritten into plain, scannable blocks so a first-time visitor under stress can still find the door they need.
